Bentota is a coastal town in Galle district of the southern province of Sri Lanka. This is known for being situated on the river mouth of Bentota River. The name Bentota originated from a folk lore which claims that the river bank of Bentota was ruled by a Demon named bem.
Bentota is a huge tourist attraction which is famous for it’s watersports, world class hotels, Ayurveda treatment and delicious coconut rum. Even during the past this Bentota was pretty endowing with its coconut supply and just for the transportation of coconuts, the British built a railway during their time in Sri Lanka.
Bentota fell out of the pretty tree of nature and hit almost every branch on the way! It’ home to some of the best beaches in Sri Lanka and also one of the few river safari spots in Sri Lanka. This place was so beautiful that THE Geoffrey Bhava who was among the most influential Asian architects of his generation built a private holiday home here. And if that isn’t confirmation enough to pack your bags and head down to Bentota I don’t know what is.

This is a secluded clean little beach with light fine white sand and warm water in all the shades of blue. Watch out if you’re planning to swim in December as the waves get a little big but if swimming isn’t your thing, getting a tan and having a relaxing walk is also possible.
This is a great place for a river safari. The whole journey is about 2-3 hours full of fish, water snakes, chameleons, water monitors and Crocodiles. Be ready for an adventure!
This is a very hands-on sea turtle protection Centre. You get to touch the turtles. But be careful though cut they might bite. If you come at night you can watch and help releasing baby turtles into the sea.
