Jaffna is the capital city of the Northern Province of Sri Lanka. This is also known by Yalpanam in Tamil.

Jaffna has been through a lot these past years, it was affected by the 2004 Tsunami that forever scarred Sri lank and it was big part of the civil war as a military base for the terrorist group. And it is now dusting itself and getting back on its’ feet as booming tourist attraction and a bustling commercial town.

According to history, it was known as dambakolapatuna which was a major maritime district in its’ day. It was so major that it was the place where the sapling for the famous Sri Maha Bhodiya in Anuradhapura was first brought to and then taken to Anuradhapura.

The culture here is more to the Hindu side with the air thick spices, sweets dripping in syrup and vibrant colors. This is also home to some of the most important Kovils and temples in Sri Lanka which are still revered to this day.
